Belle-Terrace Men/Gap Ministry Builds Ramp
One would have thought it was Christmas morning and a great big gift had been left under the Christmas tree – well, it was a gift, but it was a gift of love.
His eyes were bright and his smile was from ear to ear as his heart leaped with joy – because now he can once again sit under the carport and go in to the kitchen, dining room and living room of his home. Calvin Thornton recently had to have a portion of his left leg amputated. Upon hearing this and knowing he would be basically confined to one living area in his home, some men from the Belle-Terrace Men’s Council teamed with a few men from the Gap Ministry and built a ramp. By doing this, he is able to enjoy other areas in his home with the family and can be easily transported to his appointments.
The first ramp was built from Calvin’s room to the ground. Realizing the limitations of this ramp, the men went back and extended the ramp from his room all the way around to the carport. Then a shorter ramp was placed from the kitchen door to the carport. When the ramps were completed, they wheeled Calvin out of his room, around to the carport and on up into the kitchen (he took a glance at the stove to see if mom was cooking, of course) then on in to the dining room and the living room. You should have seen how his eyes lit up with a big wide smile to match. Now when you pass by on a pretty day you just might catch a glimpse of Calvin sitting under the carport once again.
His Mom, Ann is equally as happy to have the ramp and expresses her sincere thanks to all of the men.
